Let the Redeemed Tell Their Story

I have been writing and processing a lot of my thoughts about this new HeartSites venture. I thought I might share a few of those thoughts today, so you can know MY heart for your story.

One of my favorite verses says: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story…” (Psalm 107:2) The entire chapter of Psalm 107 is this beautiful description of God’s redemption, and I have to admit that I cry every time I read it. David lists the people that God saved and redeemed:

  • those who were lost and wandering (verse 4)
  • those who were hungry and thirsty (verse 5)
  • those who sat in darkness and chains because of their own rebellion (verse 10-12)
  • those who were foolish and experienced trouble (verse 17)
  • those who traveled on the sea to do their work and were met with storms and waves (verse 23-27)

And for each of these, God offered redemption. They cried out and God answered. He saved them, he healed them, he fed them and brought them out of the darkness and hardship. And David tells them (and us) that the right response is “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.”

It’s a reminder of our need and our responsibility to give thanks to God, and as mentioned above, verse 2 tells us to tell our story.

I don’t know about you, but in my lifetime, I’ve been lost and wandering, hungry, and in chains of my own making. I’ve been foolish and made mistakes…and I’ve worked hard and been met with difficulties and trials beyond my own understanding. I can look back on all of these experiences and see God’s loving (and sometimes firm) hand guiding my way. He has saved me over and over, just like the verses in the Psalm that also repeat, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.”

A personal invitation

When I read Psalm 107, I feel a deep personal invitation to share AND thank God through the sharing. I’ve experienced so many, many times of redemption, moments where God has rescued me from my own doubts, fears, and struggles. | continue to work through these kinds of moments, even still on a daily basis. And while I’m still in the midst of struggles (because who isn’t, as long as we are alive), I’m also standing at a place where I feel led to help others, especially women, share the stories that God has written in their lives. I believe that telling our stories is part of the healing process, not only for ourselves but for others who need to hear our journeys of grace and redemption.

Whew! I know this might feel heavy, and I’ll be diving into the ‘lighter’ side of sharing your stories in future blog posts, but this is really the heart of why I’m so passionate about HeartSites. It’s all about helping women use their stories as a tool for transformation, healing and connection.
